An event every month that begins at 10:00am on day Second of the month, repeating until October 13, 2018
February 10th: Planting Cool Season Vegetables. Here in Central New Mexico we can eat from our yards (with a simple row cover and some mulch) year around. This day we will learn about planting and growing some of those cool season crops. Topics will include: seeds, soil, amendments, irrigation, mulches …
March 10th: Irrigation for your yard and landscape. We will look at the irrigation situation at The Source, pros and cons, and do a little hands on repair. We will talk about water harvesting for your yard and soil building for best water retention. Topics will include: drip irrigation, Swales, sunken beds, raised beds, mulches …
April 14th: Planting those summer Vegetables. Depending on where you live in this town it is the time to start planting some of those delectable summer vegetables. Topics will include: seeds, soil, irrigation, amendments, companion plants, mulches…
May 20th: Pests and weeds, beneficial and edible or not. In this class we will search out and discuss those pesky weeds (many edible and all have a story to tell) insects, and diseases. Many are beneficial, many do not require a panic mode and many can be fed to your neighborhood chickens.
June 9th: Composting. Contrary to the bumper sticker, “compost happens,” composting can be a challenge. In this class we will discuss the various methods of composting. It takes a little work but is always a worthy endeavor.
July 14th: Neighborhood landscape walk. We can harvest great ideas from looking at our neighbors yards. We will start by walking around the Source and then move to strolling the neighborhood. We will look at designs, discuss the plants, wildlife habitat, edible and useful plants, creating a food forest and how a good healthful landscape can emulate nature.
August 11th: Fall Gardens, Vegetables. Yes believe it or not you can plant some vegetables this time of year for that Thanksgiving salad. We will discuss what vegetables over-winter here and how to extend your season.
September 8th: Fall Gardens, Trees, Shrubbery, Perennials. Fall is a wonderful time to plant here in New Mexico. It gives your plants plenty of time to adjust before those blazing hot days of summer. We will discuss the plants that do well here, that give us comfort and joy.
October 13th: Seed Saving, Harvesting, Sharing and Storing. Without seeds we would basically be dead. This day we will collect, share and talk about the importance of seeds and the life they give us.

Eric has been farming and landscaping in WA and NM for most of his life when he is not wandering the forests, deserts and beaches of the west.
